Rhys Hoskins last year from June 1 to the end of the season: 16-98. He hit worse against LH than RH. Not likely to be the savior for the lineup.

Pretty sure he broke his thumb last season.

Vogt has said that Rocchio will primarily play SS. Arias will be utility. Bazzana will not make the team out of ST. He is playing in the WBC which will fit the FO not wanting to speed up his service time clock.

I hadn't heard Vogt's summary of the infielders so help me understand: is that the plan for Spring Training or for the season? If Rocchio is playing SS who plays 2nd before Bazzana is ready whenver that may be? A combination of Arias, Schneemann and Martinez?

Arias or Brito at 2nd.

So far Arias has started games at Short. And Rocchio has started games at 2nd. That doesn't mean they won't switch. Kwan has played exclusively in LF

seems unlikely Brito will make the team out of spring training. He played only 24 games in Columbus last year. On the other hand, he had the whole season in Cleveland in 2024 with an 808 OPS so not impossible

Well, if opening day is any indication, an interesting race for rookie of the year in the American League is shaping up between DeLauter and Kevin McGonigle. Only one game but an impressive one for these two guys.

Guardians Make Big Announcement About Longtime Announcer

Multiple generations of Cleveland Guardians fans grew up hearing one specific voice announcing starting lineups, batters, pinch-hitters, new pitchers, defensive changes, and other things related to the daily baseball experience at the stadium. This voice belongs to Bob Tayek, who is currently being presented with some health difficulties and will have to step away from the microphones for a few months.

The Guardians made the announcement in their social media channels, as the team and its fans prepare for the first half without Tayek’s presence as a public address announcer.

“The following is a statement from the Guardians regarding public address announcer Bob Tayek:
“Cleveland Guardians long-time public address announcer Bob Tayek will be away from Progressive Field for at least the first half of the 2026 season as he focuses on recent health challenges,” the text read.

The organization respected the announcer’s privacy and didn’t offer more details about his current condition, but also said that “once he is back on his feet, Tayek is expected to return to his role.”

This will be, according to the Guardians, Tayek’s 27th campaign as the in-park voice of Cleveland baseball.

Tayek has been behind at least three great eras of Guardians baseball. He was there to introduce the likes of Manny Ramirez, Jim Thome, Charles Nagy, Roberto Alomar, and Kenny Lofton, who then gave way to Travis Hafner, CC Sabathia, and Grady Sizemore; and more recently, to Francisco Lindor, Corey Kluber, Cody Allen, and, of course, Jose Ramirez.

The team also revealed that during Tayek’s absence from the stadium, it will utilize “a team of interim public address announcers to maintain the high standard fans have come to expect at Progressive Field.”

Tayek, who actually hired award-winning announcer Tom Hamilton to be part of the Guardians (then Indians) broadcast booth in the late 1980s, has had a long career in broadcasting in Ohio. He is known for his work with the Ohio University’s football and basketball teams and moved around Akron and Cleveland. He also worked in TV news in various capacities.

Per an article by the Cleveland Guardians’ Medium channel posted in 2013, Tayek joined the team in his current role in 1999.

“In 1999, Tayek was the managing editor at WKYC when the Indians were looking for a PA man, and he got what he calls a dream job,” they wrote.

The entire Ohio sports community is rallying behind Tayek, hoping he can get well soon and return to his longtime role when he feels better.
