Caracas.- Jaison Chourio, with five hits and seven RBIs, led a 19-hit attack, with which Águilas del Zulia routed14-3 Leones del Caracas at the Luis El Grande Stadium in Maracaibo, a result that meant a two-game sweep, leaving Caracas on the verge of elimination.

The game reached the end of the sixth inning with Águilas holding a slim 2-1 lead. At that moment, the Caracas bullpen collapsed once again, falling victim to a resounding 10-run rally that left the Venezuelan team with no chance.

The more than 2,300 fans who flocked to the Zulia park did so hoping to see a dazzling performance from major leaguer Jackson Chourio. But it was his younger brother Jaison who stole the show, delivering the best game of his short LVBP career.

The outfielder and switch-hitter fell one hit short of the team record imposed this very season by Yonathan Perlaza.

It's worth noting that the Eagles' 19-hit offensive outburst was their best of the season. Caracas managed ten hits and committed both errors in the game.

Águilas climbed to third place in the standings with a 26-25 record, tentatively moving away from the risk of falling into a Wild Card playoff spot. Leones, on the other hand, suffered this sweep, dropping to a 22-29 record, guaranteeing they will finish the regular season with a losing record. This reduces their playoff chances, and they leave Maracaibo very close to elimination.

Yoimer Camacho (2-1), the second of seven Caracas pitchers, took the loss. The surprising Nomar Rojas (4-0) extended his undefeated streak, becoming the second of six Aguilas pitchers to lose. Dominican Ronaldo Alessandro, the third in the lineup, earned his sixth hold.

– Wendolyn Bautista , a right-handed pitcher with a 0-1 record and a 3.00 ERA, started for the Eagles. The Dominican was making his third appearance – always as a starter – pitching 9.0 innings with a 1.56 WHIP.

Jackson Chourio started again as the designated hitter and leadoff batter in his second game of the season. He went 1-for-5 with two runs scored, a walk, and his first RBI. He's now 1-for-9 with a .111 batting average.

Jaison Chourio went 5-for-6 with three singles, a double, and a triple. He had his first career game in the LVBP with seven RBIs and was one home run away from hitting for the cycle. In the sixth inning, on his second single of the inning and the game, he thought the hit would be the home run that would give him the cycle and didn't run hard. The ball hit the wall in mid-air.

– José Pirela , the Aguilas outfielder, aggravated his hamstring injury on Thursday, preventing him from being in the lineup for Friday's game. He was removed from the lineup shortly before the game began.

Jaison Chourio was the standout player in the Águilas del Zulia's rout of the Leones del Caracas. The outfielder went 5-for-6 with seven RBIs and only lacked a home run to complete the cycle.

The Zulia native is batting .320 and his power is earning him a place on the Raptors team. And best of all, he's doing it in front of his family, who attend every game in the stands at Luis Aparicio Stadium.

“Having my family in the stands is super special, I have no words to explain it… I am grateful to Lipso (Nava) for giving me the opportunity and thank God I am doing the job,” Chourio told ByM Sport after the victory against Leones .

The Aguilucho team is leaving behind a slump of defeats and is getting closer to securing its place in the postseason.

“We are focused, we know what we want, we want to bring the championship trophy to the fans and that is the goal, it has always been that. Thank God things are going well for us,” he said.

The value of playing with his brother Jackson

Jackson Chourio recently made his debut this season with the Águilas del Zulia and Jaison, in this case, did not hide the satisfaction he feels in sharing with his brother and that also gives him an extra boost.

“I’m grateful for the encouragement my teammates are giving me for the work I did today. Being able to play with my brother is helping me a lot,” said Chourio, who also added that his brother is “his favorite player.”

Three prominent winter leagues to withdraw from Caribbean Series if it remains in Venezuela

Political tension between Venezuela and the United States caused the CBPC to release a statement.

Amid the backdrop of political turmoil between the United States and Venezuela, three of the four most prominent members of the Confederacion de Beisbol Profesional del Caribe announced they would not send teams from their leagues to the annual Caribbean Series.

The series is scheduled for early February in Caracas, Venezuela.

LIDOM (Dominican Republic), Liga ARCO Mexicana del Pacifico and Liga de Béisbol Profesional Roberto Clemente (Puerto Rico) presidents informed the CBPC of their stance at a general assembly meeting this week.

Amid rising tensions between Venezuela and the United States, the CBPC released an official statement on its website in Spanish. It stated that “due to external situations beyond their control,” the three leagues will be unable to attend the 2026 Caribbean Series if it remains in Caracas. In the statement, the CBPC says it respects the position of the Liga Venezolana de Béisbol Profesional (LVBP) that “they possess the necessary organizational conditions” to host the event.

The CBPC also stated it will consider alternatives and continue to monitor the situation.

The Caribbean Series is a prestigious annual round-robin tournament that pairs the champion clubs from various baseball winter leagues in a week-long event. The tournament began in 1949, though it was disbanded in 1961 following the Cuban Revolution and didn’t restart until 1970. For 40 years, the Dominican, Venezuelan, Mexican and Puerto Rican Winter Leagues represented four teams in the tournament.

Those four leagues remain the four permanent members of the Caribbean Series, and other countries have participated over the last two decades. The 2026 Caribbean Series had been set to feature Cuba and Colombia, alongside the four permanent members.

The 2018 and 2019 Caribbean Series were originally scheduled to be played in Venezuela before being moved to Mexico and Panama, respectively, due to political tensions.

Guardians Prospect Is On Hot Streak In Winter League

The Cleveland Guardians have more than enough young talent to keep stacking bricks for years to come. And while they may not have enough spots on the team to give everybody a chance, it’s nice to watch some of those prospects dominate somewhere else.

That has certainly been the case with Jaison Chourio. The 20-year-old prospect has been on a roll in his native Venezuela this season.

As shown by Guardians Prospective on X, Chourio has been one of the hottest players in the Venezuelan LVBP this season. The switch-hitting center fielder reached base four times in his last game for his club, Aguilas del Zulia.

Chourio is now hitting .327 with a .838 OPS on the season.

The Venezuelan had two doubles, drew two walks, drove in a couple of runs, and went 2-of-3 in the game. That included an opposite-field RBI base hit in the third inning.

In his last two games, the young star has gone 7-for-9 with four runs scored, a couple of doubles, one triple, and two walks. He has a .778 average and eight RBI during that span, and he’s up to a .327 batting average with a .838 OPS on the season.

Of course, Chourio still has some hurdles to clear to get the nod to play for Stephen Vogt’s team. There’s even a bit of a logjam in the outfield right now.

Then again, given his switch-hitting ability and his physical tools, he has to get a chance sooner rather than later. Who knows? It might even happen at the very beginning of the regular season.

The Águilas del Zulia secured a hard-fought victory Tuesday night at Luis Aparicio Stadium in Maracaibo. The Eagles defeated the Caribes de Anzoátegui 5-3, putting them within striking distance of a playoff berth.

Jackson Chourio was the standout player of the entire game, driving in four of his team's five runs.

The Eagles took the lead in the first two innings with hits from Isaias Tejeda and of course Jackson Chourio, who also repeated the dose in the fourth inning.

Caribes was able to react and managed to tie the game, in the top of the eighth inning but at the end of that same inning, a tremendous hit by the outfielder of the Milwaukee Brewers put definitive figures on the scoreboard (5-3).

With this victory, Águilas del Zulia leaves their record at 28-26, while Caribes has a record of 27-27.

Both teams will face each other on Friday, but in Puerto La Cruz.

There are players who seem to play a different sport than everyone else, and what Jackson Chourio did Thursday night in the Venezuelan Professional Baseball League (LVBP) falls into that category. In a performance that bordered on the surreal, the young star of the Águilas del Zulia carried the team to a 5-3 victory over the Caribes de Anzoátegui.

If baseball were a video game, Chourio 's performance would have been labeled a "trick" or a "cheat." The outfielder wasn't just the offensive spark plug; he was the whole blaze.

From the first at-bat, Chourio made it clear that the "Tribe's" pitchers had no answers for his bat. His final lineup seemed like something out of a children's league, given his absolute dominance.

Caracas – After two weeks in the United States attending to family commitments, Gabriel Arias returned to Venezuela to continue contributing to the Tiburones' cause in the 2025-26 season. The shortstop is a key figure on the La Guaira roster, sending a clear message: Nobody gives up in that dugout.

GABRIEL ARIAS, COMMITTED

It's not common for a player of Gabriel Arias' stature (born in La Victoria on February 27, 2000) to return to his team in Venezuela after saying goodbye to return home. Those who do demonstrate great loyalty to their organization in the country, as is the case with Gabriel Arias.

“I will always come back to play for the Sharks because of the love I have for this jersey,” he emphasized. “As I’ve told management, I’ll be here whenever they need me, fulfilling my commitment every year because my dedication to the team is immense.”

Residing in Cleveland, where he has been a regular part of the team since the 2022 season, Gabriel Arias was dedicated to caring for a newborn son and did not have time to maintain his physical fitness.

“It was a bit complicated. There was snow and we had the baby, who needed my time. I only practiced for two days for those reasons. It was difficult, but here I am.”

Thus, with power, the Guardians' starting shortstop is contributing to the task ahead for the Sharks: to climb the standings to qualify directly for the Round Robin or, at the very least, play in the Wild Card Series.

THE FACT

La Guaira's only chance to qualify hinges on a double hurdle: an extra game and the Wild Card Series. They can only reach the same number of wins (27) as the Tigres de Aragua to tie them for sixth place. The championship rules stipulate that they must play an extra game, which would be in Maracay, and the winner will face the fifth-place team on the road to determine the final qualifier for the Round Robin.

Caracas – The Tiburones de La Guaira are playing the final week of the 2025-2026 LVBP regular season in a difficult situation. They arrive on Saturday, December 27th, with their only option being to beat the Leones del Caracas to force a playoff game, provided the Tigres de Aragua lose.

The Águilas del Zulia secured their direct berth in the LVBP postseason this Saturday in Puerto la Cruz. The Eagles defeated the Caribes de Anzoátegui 14-7 to clinch the playoff spot.

The Raptors, led by Lipso Nava, advance to the Round Robin for the second consecutive season.

A nine-run rally in the eighth inning gave the Eagles the lead.

Ali Castillo was the MVP of the game with a pair of home runs (one of them with the bases loaded), driving in five runs.

With this result, the Eagles secure direct qualification to the postseason, and if Magallanes wins, they would finish in fourth place, while the Turkish team would be third. Caribes, meanwhile, secures fifth place and therefore the advantage in the wild card round.

The team managed by Asdrubal Cabrera will face either Tiburones or Tigres in Puerto la Cruz on Monday.

When it comes to "showing off his talent," Ronald Acuña is always present, and on the last day of the regular season he was also a protagonist with his second home run in consecutive days, although he could not avoid the "nightmare" of Tiburones.
